The Firstborn Over All Creation

Jesus Christ has taken his place, in Colossians 3:1 “Christ is, seated at the right hand of God”. It says in Colossians 1:16 “all things in the heavens and on the earth were created by him … all things were created through him and for him”. And while there was war in heaven and there is sin in the earth, in Colossians 1:21–22 “although you were formerly alienated … now you have been reconciled by his physical body through death, to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him”. Now, we have a message to proclaim, in Colossians 1:26–27 “the mystery which has been hidden from the ages … but has now been revealed to his saints … Christ in you, the hope of glory.” This is the great message of our age, the message for our generation, that God has loved us and sent Jesus Christ for us, if we will believe.

The Firstborn Over All Creation

Colossians 1:15–23
Jesus Christ is “the firstborn over all creation” in Colossians 1:15 and creator as it says in

Colossians 1:16 because all things in the heavens and on the earth were created by him, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers, all things were created through him and for him,

And, Jesus Christ is the head of the church in

Colossians 1:18 and he himself is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he himself may become first in everything,

Though there was war in heaven and though there was sin in the earth and though man was separated from God, we are reconciled to God by Jesus Christ in

Colossians 1:21–22 “And although you were formerly alienated and enemies in attitude, because of your evil deeds, 22 but now you have been reconciled by his physical body through death, to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him”

The Glorious Wealth of This Mystery

Colossians 1:24–29
Although the message of salvation was hidden, and for generations has been a mystery, God has now revealed Jesus Christ to be widely known in

Colossians 1:26–27 the mystery which has been hidden from the ages and from the generations, but has now been revealed to his saints, 27 to whom God wanted to make known what is the glorious wealth of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,

Jesus had commissioned his disciples in

Matthew 28:18–20 And Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.”

and now Paul writes of the stewardship, in

Colossians 1:25 of which I became a minister, according to God’s stewardship which was given to me for you, to complete the word of God

It is this same stewardship that is passed on to our generation and we also are “to complete the word of God”.

Christ is Seated at the Right Hand of God

Colossians 3:1–4
Though we have a commission to preach the gospel on the earth, it can only be fulfilled as we enter in to the kingdom of heaven. When we accept Jesus Christ, when we turn from our rejection of God and are reconciled, we are raised, we become citizens of his kingdom. And if so, in

Colossians 3:1–2 Therefore, if you have been raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things on earth.

And if we are part of this kingdom, it is a kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in the holy ghost. We no longer live according to this world but are ambassadors of heaven. Our provision, our reward, our life, is in the kingdom of God.
